Almost everything that our new Governor does fills me with hope for our state that has been mired in muck for so long. From ethics reform to increased health care and education, Eliot has shown he is the man.
Yesterday he also showed that he has no love for the corrupt Sheldon Silver while giving his education reform speech.
From the NY Daily News:
The prepared text handed out before Gov. Spitzer's education reform speech included the following nosegay to Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, with whom he has been feuding over the selection of a new controller:
One of the core features of our new Four Year Investment Plan will be to establish universal access to quality pre-kindergarten education – something that has been a priority of Speaker Silver for many years.
As delivered, however, Spitzer omitted the second part of that sentence -- sending a murmur through the press corps. One reporter quipped that Silver must have made up his mind to ignore Spitzer's advice and elect an Assembly Democrat to the controller's job instead of one of the outsiders recommended by an expert panel.
Could it just be one of those random coincidences? Perhaps Eliot had a momentary flash of blindness. My thought is that was absolutely hysterical, job well done in my book!
