The answer to vicious right-wing radio, Air America Radio, has been saved today from it's financial hardships by a Manhattan real estate developer. The embattled network has seen some hard times but is on the rebound now after being purchased following their Chapter 11 bankruptcy late last year.
From the AP:
Air America Radio, a liberal talk radio network, said Monday that it had reached a tentative agreement to be sold to the founder of a New York area real estate company. The network also said that Al Franken, its longtime headline personality, would depart next month.
The agreement with Stephen Green, the founder and chairman of SL Green Realty Corp., appears to rescue the struggling network, which has been seeking a buyer since last fall when it filed for bankruptcy reorganization after reaching an impasse with one of its creditors.
No terms of the sale agreement were disclosed. Any sale would have to be approved by the bankruptcy court.
Green is the brother of Mark Green, a longtime New York politician who has also appeared frequently as a guest on Air America Radio.
It is about time someone stood up for this brave network that has weathered a barrage of right-wing attacks. Despite the turbulence of the last two and a half years, Air America is still beloved by many and deserves to stay up in the air and listened to by the many that seek truthiness on the radio.
As Al Franken leaves to run for the U.S. Senate against freshman incumbent Norm Coleman in Minnesota, the network takes a new direction this year flush with cash and budding talent.
