After being the victim this week of a hateful anti-gay slur by Ann Coulter, Edwards keeps marching on and leads the pack in how to run a successful Democratic campaign. First off he raised a heap o' cash from Coulter's vicious attack. He was dignified about his response and others had to agree with his position and not Ann Coulter's, especially the candidates running as Republicans. His latest brilliant political calculation was his refusal to participate in the Fox News Presidential debate being held in Nevada this coming August.
From the Edwards campaign:
There were a number of factors and Fox was one of those. We’re already planning to participate in a jam-packed schedule of debates across this country, but with 16 or 17 currently proposed and probably more on the way, we can’t attend every single debate and forum. By the end of this month, we will have already have attended three forums in Nevada, and we will be participating in others in the state. The additional Nevada debates proposed as of now include CNN in November and another debate in January. But given the wealth of options, the August debate just doesn’t seem to be the best use of Senator Edwards’ time.”
Of course Barack Obama made a smart move by refusing to appear on air or be interviewed by the Fox Noise Channel, but that was a result of their ridiculous and misleading character assassination of the Senator from Illinois. Edwards is doing this on principle and because it is widely known in the progressive community that Fox News is a propaganda tool of the right.
