To our impeachable Vice-President escalation is a good thing while de-escalation by the British is also a good thing. He tells us that we will not retreat while an overwhelming majority of Americans support getting out of Iraq. The White House (Dick Cheney) calls the British 'retreat' a success because Iraqis are beginning to stand up, or something like that. The only thing the Iraqis are standing up to is for a fight against their neighbors that believe in a different sect of Islam.
Tony Blair may nod his head in tacit approval as the Republicans play a political war of ideas at home, but the truth is far from GOP talking points. The British people are sick of losing their men and women on the battlefield and they letting their leaders know it. Blair is in his year of office and his Labor Party has suffered tremendously due to Tony's role as Bush's sycophant. The Brits have been heard and their government is acquiescing.
If only our government would heed the will of the people, we might catch up with the rest of the world where many countries have pulled out of the Middle East or are on their way to do so. The Danish government recently proclaimed their troops would be gone by this year as well.
Dick Cheney will never listen and as his pet, Bush will never cede his will to the majority of Americans either. It is time to get rid of these guys, the sooner the better. Memo to Congress: You have the power to end this war by pulling the funding and the means to rid our democracy of leaders that disobey the constitution with careless disregard.
