Did Putin Spare Georgia The Worst To Avoid Looking Like Bush?

There are so many negative attributes about President George Bush, you'd have to write several novels to full encompass them all (oh wait, that's been done already). So I'd like to take a moment to highlight something good he's done in the world of foreign affairs, even if it was done indirectly. It seems that a conversation between Nicolas Sarkozy and Vladimir Putin might have saved Saakashvili's gonads by way of our outgoing Presidential disaster.

From The TimesOnline (UK):

With Russian tanks only 30 miles from Tbilisi on August 12, Mr. Sarkozy told Mr. Putin that the world would not accept the overthrow of Georgia’s Government. According to [Sarkozy’s chief diplomatic adviser, Jean-David] Levitte, the Russian seemed unconcerned by international reaction. “I am going to hang Saakashvili by the balls,” Mr. Putin declared.

Mr. Sarkozy thought he had misheard. “Hang him?” — he asked. “Why not?” Mr. Putin replied. “The Americans hanged Saddam Hussein.”

Mr. Sarkozy, using the familiar tu, tried to reason with him: “Yes but do you want to end up like [President] Bush?” Mr. Putin was briefly lost for words, then said: “Ah — you have scored a point there.”
Now when someone as sinister as Vladimir Putin takes pause at the fear of being compared to George Bush, we can truly account for how far world opinion has fallen of our country in the last several years. That countdown clock to January 20th really can't tick fast enough. Though I wonder if Bush will take credit for that in his memoirs, hmmm.

Meet President Sarkozy's Better Half

France recently elected the conservative (drunk) Nicolas Sarkozy to follow the controversial Jacques Chirac. If our own President sees promise in him, you know its bad news. Though there is a bright side to the new French leader, its his wife. Cecilia has been tantalizing the press across the pond with her very non-traditional ways, including a snub at George Bush.

From Yahoo News:

President Nicolas Sarkozy travelled alone to meet George W. Bush and his family at their Atlantic holiday home after Cecilia -- staying just an hour away at a US lakeside resort -- bowed out due to a throat ailment.

The US leader said he was "disappointed" but understanding after Cecilia called Laura Bush at the last minute to excuse herself, but the change of plan sounded a false note in what was billed as a rare personal get-together.

She was photographed later Sunday taking a stroll in town with two friends. Nicolas Sarkozy, meanwhile, was seen wearing earphones and jogging on a lakeside path with a seven-strong entourage.

I would personally rather be with friends than step anywhere near the Bush family compound in Kennebunkport. So there's no blame towards her from this corner. If you have to use the "sore throat" line to get out of something you hate doing (i.e. work, school, seeing the Bushies) then its just got to be done.

Bush Wasn't The Only One Drinking At The G8

This news clip was recorded after a lunch with Russian President Putin, but I wonder if right-wing Sarkozy shared a few (dozen) of those 'non-alcoholic' beers with his new friend George Bush.

Romney Will Say Anything For A Vote

Presidential candidate Mitt Romney already has the stigma of being known as a flip-flopper. Of course, that didn't stop him playing to his audience at Regent University and tell lies to please the conservative crowd. He lied about and bashed the French, 'liberal' culture and used the tragedy at Virginia Tech to show off his holiness. It amazes me that this guy is considered a front-runner for anything, let alone the Republican nomination next year.

From The Washington Post:

VIRGINIA BEACH, May 5 -- Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney (R) did not discuss his Mormon faith as he continued his outreach Saturday to conservative Christians in a graduation speech at Regent University, the school founded by televangelist Pat Robertson.

Instead, Romney, who is intensely courting this key segment of the Republican base in hopes of winning the party's 2008 presidential nomination, expounded on conservative themes such as the importance of child-rearing and marriage and the presence of evil in the world.

(snip)

"There is no work more important to America's future than the work that is done within the four walls of the American home," Romney said. He also criticized people who choose not to get married because they enjoy the single life.

"It seems that Europe leads Americans in this way of thinking," Romney told the crowd of more than 5,000. "In France, for instance, I'm told that marriage is now frequently contracted in seven-year terms where either party may move on when their term is up. How shallow and how different from the Europe of the past."

Wow, those are some pretty harsh statements against the French. Ah Mitt, if only they were true words. Crooks and Liars looked up your odd statement and found that it was based on a French comedy, not what really goes on outside the brilliant mind of Mitt Romney.

Now that the French have elected a new President they want to follow through with actual morality that benefits society and the world, specifically concerning climate change. Sarkozy wants to work with the U.S. to fight climate change...but what is the chance that a President Mitt Romney would care about little things like that? Probably slim to none.
