McCain Claims Obama's Address Gets In Way Of Baseball, Fox Says Otherwise

John McCain is looking for anything to complain about these days and it showed yesterday by bringing up erroneous claims about Obama's paid 30 minute spot tonight. McCain tried to get in with baseball fans by saying that the World Series is going to be delayed for the ad, but as usual, the truth got in his way.

From Politico:

"Our first pitch for the world series is usually around 8:30 anyway – so we didn’t push back the game, it was really just about suspending the pre-game -- you know, Joe Buck," said the account executive, Joe Coppola. "That’s all we did."

He said World Series games this season have begun between 8:22 p.m. and 8:35 p.m.

"We didn’t push back the game at all," he said. He also said Obama had initially arranged to buy the time only if the Series were over before Game Six (in fact, a rain-delayed Game Five will continue tomorrow night), but Fox then decided to sell the campaign the time whether or not the game was played.
Another blown talking point for McCain. While John whines about not being able to spend the money on his own 30 minute ad, Barack Obama will be able to lay out his plans for the nation as our next President. Oh and what would a Republican attack be without a little hypocrisy.

Clinton Plays Both Sides Of Controversial Murdoch

I have to be honest, it is irritating to see so many political figures on the left endorsing Hillary. Joe Wilson's was particularly troubling for me because I respect him so much. Don't get me wrong, I'd take her over any Republican any day, but it would be more about picking the less toxic poison than a candidate I believe in. One glaring example is her relationship with Rupert Murdoch. To be fair, the other front runners have taken money from Fox Execs, but not from Murdoch directly and the sums are not even close to being similar.

From The Huffington Post:

On June 5, Rupert Murdoch, chairman of the News Corporation, gave her presidential bid $2,300. A few weeks later, his son, James R. Murdoch, chief executive of British Sky Broadcasting in London, gave $3,400. Altogether, NewsCorp/Fox executives gave at least $40,000 to the Clinton campaign.

In July 2006, the elder Murdoch hosted a fundraiser for Clinton's Senate re-election campaign, raising many eyebrows among Democrats. The Financial Times, which first disclosed the event, noted that Murdoch was a part of the "vast right wing conspiracy" named by Hillary Clinton as determined to destroy her husband's presidency.

She explained her willingness then to accept Murdoch's support to the FT: "He's my constituent and I'm very gratified that he thinks I'm doing a good job."

Asked about the Murdoch contributions to Clinton's presidential bid, Howard Wolfson, director of communications, said he had no comment.

If Hillary wants to be open and honest, she should explain her precarious situation with the global media tycoon. Rupert Murdoch is no ordinary constituent, that explanation is pathetic at best. She only refused to participate in the Fox News debate after Edwards and Obama declined first and didn't bother criticizing Murdoch or the network. Hillary touts this type of behavior as being a centrist, but in reality she looks like she is playing the base for fools.

More On Fox From The Simpsons

Last time I threw up a clip from this episode, Kent was about to expose the truth onto YouTube.

Now here's the conclusion:

How Fox Gets Away With It

Ever wonder how the Fox Network can throw up cultural garbage on their main television network and then scream at the decline of society's morals on their cable news channel? Leave it to one of Fox's own, The Simpsons, to explain it all:

Muslim Groups Protest '24'

From a fan website
Jack Bauer and the Fox network are at it again, pissing off segments of society for the benefit of their ratings. This isn't the first time that people have protested the stereotyping of Islamic groups on the hit show. Two years ago muslims were cast as nuclear warhead thieves planning on attacking the United States, though Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) saved the day.

The most recent episode did not have such a happy ending, where a nuclear bomb was detonated in Los Angeles, again by muslims. Some people may argue that the only people that would attack the United States are that segment of the population, but that would only show their ignorance of history and those that commit acts of terrorism. Not too long ago a man by the name of Timothy McVeigh blew up the Federal building in Oklahoma City, a few days ago Greek terrorists shot a rocket at the U.S. Embassy in Athens and terrorists around the world attack their adversaries no matter what religion they ascribe to.

CNN has more:

"The overwhelming impression you get is fear and hatred for Muslims," said Rabiah Ahmed, a spokeswoman for the Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations. She said Thursday she was distressed by this season's premiere. "After watching that show, I was afraid to go to the grocery store because I wasn't sure the person next to me would be able to differentiate between fiction and reality."

She said the group had a conference call Wednesday with Fox executives to protest the current plot line and request more positive portrayals of Muslims on the show, but was not promised anything.

After a January 2005 meeting with CAIR, Fox aired a commercial in which the show's star, Kiefer Sutherland, urged viewers to keep in mind that the show's villains are not representative of all Muslims.

Well at least some action was taken, but not nearly enough. Perhaps we can see some 'American terrorists' being beaten up and tortured. You know torture is one of those moral values that we like to see acted on to protect the fair nation that we all live in. CAIR is correct on this issue. There has to be more done in this country to promote religious harmony, not the other way around. As one that has a few friends that are muslim and many that 'look Muslim' (i.e. having dark skin) have been harassed by fellow neighbor and officer of the law alike.

Fox's 24: Is Jack Bauer A White House Shill?

From Alternet:

"24" is back on Fox TV -- the hit show starring Kiefer Sutherland, which premiered Sunday night, once again features at least one big torture scene in every episode -- the kind of torture the Bush White House says is necessary to protect us from you-know-who.

The show is much more convincing than the White House at making the case for torture; its ratings have gone steadily up over the last five years, while Bush's ratings have gone steadily down.

The fast-pace, intense drama that is '24' is increasing its ratings across the country. The latest show demonstrates a nuclear bomb detonating inside the United States. It would be a nightmare come true if this actually happened though for now it frightens viewers and similar episodes grip its viewers on a weekly basis. Interestingly enough, TIME/CNN recently reported that Vice President Dick Cheney is a fan of the show.

MSNBC asks if '24' promotes torture and spreads fear:

Of course the show is entertainment yet is this what constitutes drama on television these days? As more and more people see acts of torture portrayed on their television screens it desensitizes viewers to the despicable acts that so many condone. Television has certainly numbed people to the effects of violence for some time now, this seems to take it to the next level.
