Chris Matthews Likens Rep. Ryan To Hebert Hoover

Chris Matthews pwns Congressman Paul Ryan when he attempted to spin Republican propaganda yesterday.

I hope you all don't mind the new YouTube format...especially since it fits the GOP's thinking so well.

Tweety Getting Serious About The Senate

Not the cartoon character, nor the combination of Tweety Bird and Chris Matthews, but the whole Chris Matthews. He's apparently set on running for Arlen Specter's seat in two years and buying a house on the other side of New Jersey to prove it. Of course real estate in Pennsylvania is intriguing, but giving up his soapbox on MSNBC would mean a whole lot more.

From Politico:

As speculation surrounding his potential candidacy heats up, Matthews has also been asking advisers whether to step down from his MSNBC post well before his contract expires in June. At one recent meeting, he was advised that if he truly intends to run, he should resign from the network as soon as possible.

“We talked about the value of doing this now and six months from now. I advocated that he do this as soon as possible,” the operative said. “It’s the MSNBC stuff that’s going to jam him up. I said, 'If you want to be a U.S. senator, step up and get into the race.'”
As you may recall, Al Franken resigned from his much more liberally-minded gig at Air America in mid-February of 2007. Of course Air America had nothing to lose, since it is a progressive talk network. MSNBC on the other hand is supposed to be neutral and is afraid of wingers calling them the Fox News of the left. The reality is those nuts on the right will say bad things about MSNBC either way, just as long as there are people at the network that call them out on their rabid rightwing shit.

Still, if Chris wants to put himself out there and join the club of 100, then he should resign from Hardball ASAP.

How The Traditional Media Truly Works

Explained by the always amazing Cenk Uyugr, he breaks down the crap and throws it right back to Chris Matthews' and David Gregory's of the world:

This "Socialism" Attack Really Cannot Be Defended

Try as GOP pundit Ed Rogers might, there really is no basis in fact of the Republicans' attack on Barack Obama's tax plan. Matthews and Shrum easily batted away the fearmongering about socialism and "redistributing the wealth" and kept bringing the discussion back to reality, despite Rogers talking over the other guys as much as possible.

Chris Matthews Schools Pfotenhauer On VP Role

Nancy tries to spin Palin's answers as best she can but in the end Matthews embarrasses her. How sad is that the Republicans do not understand the role of the Vice-President as the Constitution lays it out.

I smell a serious amount of smoke from this campaign.

Chris Matthews Calls McCain A Troll

Pundit-extraordinaire Chris Matthews of MSNBC has quite a mouth on him. With all the talking he does on Hardball, "exceptional" comments range from the obscene to the hilarious. He's a mixed bag and the viewer never knows what inane thing he'll say next (probably why he gets to stay on cable day-in and day-out). Well last night his new found feelings for the No-Talk McCain showed through. Summing up the debate and the candidates' demeanor, Matthews wrapped McCain into one hell of a five-letter word while speaking with the New Yorker's John Howard.

From RawStory:

Matthews: "Who do you want to listen to for 4-8 years? It really is part of how we look at these things. Let's start with John McCain. Do you think he was to troll-like, tonight? You know, too much of a troll? Seriously, do people want to put up with four years of that, of sitting there angrily, grumpily...like a codger?

I don't want to push you too far, but didn't he seem really contemptuous of his opponent?"

After much laughter, Howard responds, "He did..."

Matthews: "You want to put up with four years of that?"

Howard: "He hates Obama...Maybe when Obama's not on stage we won't have to put up with that."

"Excuse me," interrupts Matthews, "that's what he thinks of the press. Is every press conference going to be like that? Troll-like performance, angry at the world?"
Personally I've never referred to John McCain as a troll, especially with so many other wonderful adjectives available in the English language. I do believe I've used the word "curmudgeon" before, so I guess that comes close. Descriptive, yet seldom-used adjectives aside, McCain came off as a grumpy and angry man that could hardly believe that he, John S. McCain, would have to debate anyone that would want to get in his way of becoming President. Really, the arrogance of the Senator was over the top. The fact that he couldn't make eye contact once in over an hour and half says more to the American people than any pundit could, even those that dare call people trolls.

Rep. Cantor Tries To Escape From Bush's Legacy

Chris Matthews, in one of his more indignant forms, goes after Congressman Cantor for trying to distance himself from Bush. With Fiorina's "disappearance," McCain needed new surrogate blood to help him run from Dubya but with the record as it is, it is a tough job even for the most ammoral Republican.

Matthews Shreds Kevin James For Not Knowing What He's Talking About

I have to hand it to Chris Matthews for his steadfastness with idiot-winger Kevin James yesterday. James was yelling at the top of his lungs to spout off the newest right wing talking point that George Bush was right in taking a swipe at Obama. This time Matthews isn't having any of it because James has no idea what 'appeasement' means.

The beautiful part starts after 4:00min:

Chris Matthews: Chief Of The Baboons

Chris Matthews is a serious douchebag. Every time he gets in front of that camera I cringe for what is about to come out of his mouth.

Tonight was no different:

First he talks about not making elitist comments (which he does all the time) and then makes an absurd comparison of Hillary Clinton and Al Sharpton! I don't know who should be more offended, Al or Hillary. What I do know is that Chris is a blowhard and comments like this confirm it.

Matthews Admits Media's Pro-War Bias

Those of us on the left have known about the media's true bias for sometime now. Though finally we have someone that admitted to the pro-war bias shown in cable, print and network news since the run up to the Iraq war. None other than Chris "Tweety Bird" Matthews fessed up and noted that it came from high up in the organization.

From The Huffington Post:

In a speech at Harvard's Institute of Politics on Monday, Chris Matthews admitted that MSNBC bosses were "basically pro-war during the war." The remark came in a larger discussion of top-down editorial control at the network — of which Matthews claimed there was none, citing the fact that many of his bosses supported Hillary Clinton while he has been very vocal for Obama.

His full statement, in response to a question whether MSNBC officially supports Obama (via Politico's Michael Calderone):

"Well, it's not official." (LAUGH) "Well, I don't think Joe Scarborough has. And I don't think Tucker Carlson did. And Keith does his thing. He does his thing--it's something and it's very successful. I do my thing. I don't think that's true. I think... my sense is that everybody that lives in New York is for Hillary. The people I work with--all my bosses--seem to be for Hillary. I just sense it. They don't actually say it, but there's no sense from the top I can tell you that it's pro-Obama.. by any means. That's not what I get. And it was basically pro-war during the war.. the bosses were. And I was up against that. And if there's anybody telling me to push Obama, I haven't heard it yet. And by the way, they're so fickle.... but there seems to be a New York thing about Hillary. Just the people from... it's like the Yankees and the Mets... it's their thing. You know? It's Hillary. You know? And I feel it. I find it. It's hard to figure sometimes. But I don't know who you are talking about. I know who you are talking about."

Chris starts to confuse himself at the end, but the truth did slip out. One of those "at the top" is his idol and NBC icon Tim Russert. He of course, has a show called "Meet The Press" that helps to set the media narrative across the country. Chris tried to make excuses for the media's pro-war, pro-corporate America bias, but no one is buying it anymore. When you tell someone that the same company that owns your network is a major defense contractor as well, it isn't hard for them to put the pieces together and say "Hmmm."

Hypocrisy Run Amok, Get Chris Matthews Some Help!

As it exists in human nature to some degree, hypocrisy is abundant in the particular area of our world that is politics. It also appears frequently in the media that covers the political world (not to exclude other types of media as well) and tonight Chris Matthews of MSNBC was trying out to be the poster child of hypocritical political pundits and/or "journalists." This is a true classic moment for Tweety.

From Crooks and Liars:

video_wmv Download | Play video_mov Download | Play

Chris Matthews took time out of covering fake scandals and reciting GOP narratives on Monday’s Hardball to take a dig at members of the media who attended this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner:

“…It’s one thing to gather for events like this in Washington, it’s another one to laugh and applaud - to be charmed when the president puts on a little show. It’s harmless stuff, except that the people yucking it up in that scene are the people who are professionally committed to calling it when the people in power get it wrong.”

Where do I begin? When it comes to boot licking and heaping praise on some of the worst politicians, (current, former AND indicted) pundits and candidates to ever darken Washington D.C., Matthews, the Village Idiot, knows no peer.

Yeah seriously, Matthews is almost in a class by himself when it comes to bootlickers and village idiots. How does he even begin to try and look like some sort of neutral bystander to the crap that the traditional media pulls every day? Does Chris have serious cajones to broach this subject or is he just in need of some serious mental help?

Chris Matthews Talks To Colbert About....Running For Senate???

I didn't think there could be anything worse about Chris Matthews than his one hour (or more) a day punditry on MSNBC. Unfortunately being a Senator would make his gasbag idiocy transcend the tube and go to the floor of the Senate. Now that is truly scary.

Obama Laughs In Chris Matthews' Face

It is a long interview, but the part where Obama is asked what was the funniest thing for him has to be the best part of the interview:

Chris Matthews Can't Hide His Racism

Yesterday was April Fool's Day, but Chris Matthews' comments about Barack Obama was no joke. He had Senator Claire McCaskill on the show to talk about, of all things, Obama's bowling skills (why that has anything to do with running for President, you got me) and he used it in a way to lean on racial stereotypes that have no place on a news show or television in general.

From Media Matters:

Discussing Sen. Barack Obama on the April 1 edition of MSNBC's Hardball, host Chris Matthews asked Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO): "Let me ask you about how he -- how's he connect with regular people? Does he? Or does he only appeal to people who come from the African-American community and from the people who have college or advanced degrees?" Earlier in the show, referring to Obama's bowling performance at a March 29 campaign stop at Pleasant Valley Lanes in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Matthews teased the segment with McCaskill by asking, "[C]an Obama woo more regular voters -- you know, the ones who actually do know how to bowl?" As Media Matters for America noted, on the March 31 edition of Hardball, Matthews said of Obama: "[T]his gets very ethnic, but the fact that he's good at basketball doesn't surprise anybody, but the fact that he's that terrible at bowling does make you wonder."

Since when are those who are college educated and/or African-Americans not regular people?!? And the basketball comment? Seriously Chris WTF is wrong with you? Those stereotypes are absolutely ridiculous and only serve to lower the character of the debate. Of course none of this surprises me, Matthews continually offends everyone that isn't a white male as long as he's talking out loud. If it isn't an implied racist remark, there's a chauvinistic barb waiting in the wings.

If only MSNBC could do the right things and get rid of him, how much better the world of American politics would be.

Chris Matthews Is Still A Moron

After all these years of being on television, we shouldn't expect the pundit-extraordinaire Chris Matthews to stop bloviating to the nth degree. His latest ridiculous comment concerned George Bush and baseball. You might have seen the 40,000+ fans booing him yesterday in Washington as the Nationals started their season and ol' Georgie threw out the first ceremonial pitch. That is to be expected. What came out of left field (pun intended) was Matthews' observation.

From The Huffington Post:

MSNBC's Chris Matthews told his viewers Monday that the hearty round of boos that greeted President George W. Bush when he threw out the inaugural pitch at Washington D.C.'s new baseball stadium weren't a big deal, because all politicians get booed at ball games, and Bush "showed a lot of guts" throwing out the pitch.

A lot of guts? No Chris, you have a lot of guts when you open that big, fat mouth of yours every night and manage to offend everyone outside of the Beltway.

Bill Maher Owned Hardball Last Night

For the few minutes that he was on, Bill Maher had Tweety laughing and dominated McCain's secret lover by hammering home the facts that race is still a major factor in American society and Obama did the right thing by addressing an issue that no one talks about. Then he decimated McCain on his Iraq strategy which only 'emboldens' the terrorists:

So WTF Is Chris Matthews Problem?

Not only are his attacks on Hillary atrocious, it seems that almost everything that comes out of his mouth is ridiculous and obscene. Why do people listen to this guy?

Chris Matthews: All Around Douchebag

Not only is Chris a woman-hating misogynist, he's a typical DC pundit who only wants to see American politics through his own thick, scratchy glasses. Last night on Hardball he listed his top six candidates from both parties and conveniently left John Edwards out of the rankings. Who, you ask, did he put in his place? None other than bottom of the barrel Rudy Giuliani, who has a make or break primary in Florida on the 29th of this month. Tweety, you truly do exhibit the worst kind of wishful thinking.

From Crooks and Liars:

video_wmv Download (731) | Play (784) video_mov Download (744) | Play (371) (h/t Heather)

During the Power Ranking segment on Monday’s Hardball, Chris Matthews decided to snub Democratic presidential candidate, John Edwards, choosing instead to insert the floundering Rudy Giuliani into the list. Not one word about Edwards, but Tweety believes that Rudy is still in the hunt for the GOP nod, giving him the last slot in the rankings.

Surprisingly, (or not) Matthews had just shown poll numbers from Nevada showing a virtual three way tie among Democrats, but apparently that, being right on the important issues of the day and having a solid primary season thus far, wasn’t enough to propel Edwards over Rudy — who is going broke, plummeting in the polls and is throwing everything he’s got into the Florida race to try and save his joke of a campaign. There’s a real power player if I’ve ever seen one.

I know it is hard to ignore numbers that show Edwards in a three way statistical tie for Saturday's Nevada caucus when you want the race to be all about Obama and Clinton, but try and make a change. Try and look at all the facts. Ditch the narrative and report on what the voters are thinking about for their choice to be President.

Chris Matthews Has His Panties All In A Bunch

How's that for a little gender joke Chris? You like to make fun of women like Hillary and conduct yourself in a crude manner around women on your show, well why don't you just shove it. Turns out your 'friend' on the election night specials has saved the network from your inane commentary and an executive at MSNBC has sold you down the river.

From MediaBistro:

If MSNBC anchor Keith Olbermann were to write a book about Office Politics 101, he'd call it "Do As I Write, Not As I Did for 20 Years." Olbermann discusses office politics and other issues in the February issue of Men's Journal magazine, out yesterday.

In the interview with Paul Tullis, one focus is Olbermann's habit of, "trashing people publicly, even his employers."

But he seems to be doing well for himself in the office now. Tullis cites a senior executive at MSNBC, who says, "Keith runs MSNBC. It's been an amazing turnaround, because two years ago they were going to cancel him. Because of his success, he's in charge. Chris Matthews is infuriated by it."

The article also touches on Olbermann's goals, in the context of his main competition, Fox News Channel. "I'd like it to be the accurate counterweight to Fox. My attitude is not to counterbalance them because they're conservatives; it's counterbalancing because some of their stuff is outlandishly in violation of every tenet of responsible broadcasting," he says.

Awww, why so upset Chrissy? Is that bruised ego of yours actually bigger than your fat head? Get over it quick, or (hopefully) you'll find yourself out of a job.

Hillary Confronts Tweety's Obsession

Hillary is definitely a remarkable politician, though not necessarily the best one for the job of being our 44th President. Of course the voters will (and are) deciding that on their own but forget all that voting stuff for a moment. For many months now, Chris Matthews has a had an odd thing for Hillary. Some call it an obsession and by the looks of it, that is certainly what it is. Matthews plays dumb when Hillary calls him on his shit, but when you take a look at the exchange, Hillary clearly gets Tweety good.

From Crooks and Liars:

video_wmv Download (309) | Play (558) video_wmv Download (200) | Play (249) (h/t Bill)

If you were bemoaning the fact there just wasn’t enough sex in the presidential race to make it interesting there was this bit of absurdity from a press conference at Nashua North High School in New Hampshire as Hillary called out Chris Matthews of MSNBC over his obsession with her. It all began innocently enough as Matthews pressed her on the plan to bring U.S troops home from Iraq and the difference from her competitors. Mrs Clinton said she’d be “responsible about it”, which didn’t satisfy the dogged Mr Matthews:

Matthews: “No, you tell us the difference!”

Clinton: “I’m not on your show, I’m just answering your question.”

Matthews: “Please come on the show.”

Clinton: “Yeah, right.”

Matthews: “Is that an answer?”

Clinton: “You know, I don’t know what to do with men who are obsessed with me. Honestly, I’ve never understood it.”

h/t Mediabistro:

Later, Sen. Clinton walked over to Matthews. He pinched her cheek. She grazed his with her hand and said in a mother-to-child tone, “oh, Christopher. Baby.” Matthews mumbled, “it’s not an obsession.”

Looks like Christopher is in denial. Maybe if he'd try to be fair to all the candidates on his show he wouldn't have been caught the way he did.
