Congressman Bachus Channels Joe McCarthy

There is no end to my amusement with Republicans lately. "Leaders" bow down to Rush Limbaugh regularly, every other sentence out of Michael Steele's mouth is a gaffe and the latest thing this small minority is into is a national teabag party (didn't someone working with the manufactured movement take a moment to think about what "teabagging" meant?) to protest "taxation without representation" despite the fact that their party got spanked in the last two elections.

And if that wasn't enough, let me introduce Congressman Spencer Bachus to you. He goes above and beyond these teabaggers with an act that would make Senator Joseph McCarthy proud. He is going public with a list of Democrats in Congress that are "socialists." BarbInMD at DailyKos sums it up best:

Translation?

The State Department House is infested with communists socialists. I have here in my hand a list of 205 17 — a list of names that were made known to the Secretary of State me as being members of the Communist Socialist Party and who nevertheless are still working and shaping policy in the State Department Congress.

With this type of behavior, Republicans are only setting themselves up for more pain and punishment in the 2010 elections. Going harder to the right isn't going to solve their party's woes. This craziness might excite the fringe, but 30% or less does not win elections.

Karl Rove's Ridiculousness Continues On Economy

Karl Rove was once thought a political mastermind, now he's just another wingnut spouting garbage on Fox News. The latest drivel out of his mouth is that Obama is causing the markets to sink because he hasn't picked a treasury secretary. Nevermind the greed and lack of oversight for the last decade, it just has to be Obama not picking the head of Treasury with two months left until the inauguration.

Hopefully his opinions stay at the home of the deranged echo chamber that is his current employer.

Hezbollah A Role Model For Romney

You would think that all the Republican candidates would make empty rhetorical statements about fighting terrorists. Over there, draconian laws attacking our liberties here and instilling fear wherever they go. Yet Mitt Romney is bucking the trend. Not only is he looking outside the narrow Republican box, he's embracing Hezbollah.....yes, that Hezbollah.

From The Daily Gotham:

Missed this when it first came out at the beginning of August. But the National Jewish Democratic Council has brought it to my attention. Mitt Romney has criticized Democrats for being unable to "recognize evil." And yet Mitt Romney ALSO is calling for America to look to Hezbollah as a role model.

...in an article titled “Mitt Romney cited Hezbollah's social network as a model for U.S. diplomacy,” the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA) reported on recent comments by GOP Presidential candidate Mitt Romney that Hezbollah’s “kind of diplomacy is something that would help America become stronger around the world …”

I'm sorry Mitt, I like to think outside the box, but not in that direction, not even close here. Hezbollah is a group of terrorists that uses community aid to support their terrorist attacks on Israel and Lebanon. They put on an elaborate front, more so than you could ever dream of. Maybe its the "Party of God" thing that attracts you. Personally, they repulse me...and so do your statements about them.

Kristol Could Care Less About America

America runs on top of the strength of our infrastructure. Commerce would grind to a halt without properly maintained roads (as it did last week in Minneapolis). Extreme weather would kill thousands more every year if it wasn't for electricity (and steam here in NYC) that remained on to power homes. Levees protect large cities from floods and other natural disasters (except for in Louisiana). Are you starting to catch my drift here? Thats why ridiculous comments from neo-cons like William Kristol tend to piss me off. He thinks there is no problem.

From RawStory:

Fox News political contributor Bill Kristol, appearing on the August 5 broadcast of Fox News Sunday, made comments minimizing the significance of a bridge collapse in Minnesota last week. At least five people were killed and 100 injured when the bridge collapsed Wednesday.

"I don't think this symbolizes any great failure of our infrastructure," said Kristol. "Once every twenty five years some bridge falls down unexpectedly due to engineering problems and it is unfortunate obviously but the idea that the whole country is crumbling is not, I think, credible."

The callousness is disgusting. Of course for Billy, there are more important things to spend our nation's money (and its debt) on, like illegal wars and whatnot.

Wingnuttery At It's Finest

I wouldn't usually post this type of film but sometimes you need to to see the idiocy in all its glory. Here we have Glenn Beck interview Senator Inhofe about global warming. Glenn admits there is something going on, but doesn't think it is done by mankind, although he won't consider changing his habits because China won't either. If you think that is bad, wait till James Inhofe opens his mouth.

Romney Still Loves Kooky Coulter

Despite all of the candidates coming out to oppose Ann Coulter's anti-gay slur directed at Senator John Edwards, one of those guys still seemed to curry favor with the hate-filled mistress of the right. She said in her endorsement that she likes a guy who can easily trick liberals. Um, sorry Ann, we see right through his shit and yours. The guy will say whatever it takes to get the vote, whether it is swinging to the left up in Massachusetts or way over to the right for Ann and the rest of the wingnut brigade.

From Matt Browner Hamlin at HuffPost:

Earlier in his speech, Romney said, "I'm happy to learn that after I speak you're going to hear from Ann Coulter. That's a good thing. I think it's important to get the views of moderates." It is truly shameful that Romney thinks it's a good thing for Coulter to spew her bigotry at anyone, let alone a candidate for the presidency. Does Mitt Romney agree with Coulter's homophobia? Does he think there's something wrong with being gay, as Coulter clearly does? Romney values Coulter's support because, as Glenn Greenwald notes, "she reflects [the] true impulses" of the conservative movement." It is the same part of the conservative movement that is in attendance at CPAC every year and it is who Romney came to court and Coulter came to speak to.

Not surprisingly, Mitt Romney's campaign website printed only excerpts of his CPAC remarks. Praise for Ann Coulter isn't something that Romney would actually want the whole world to know about, only the select few true conservatives at CPAC. That didn't stop Romney from releasing the full text of his speech to RedState.com, which they dutifully published. Surprisingly it was not scrubbed of Romney's praise for Coulter or his joking approval of her as a moderate.

See, when the national audience has it's eyes fixed for the moment on crazy Coulter, Romney will try and look tough against the vitriol of the blonde-headed beast. Yet when it is time to shine to the right, he will stick with her and all her glory.

Olbermann Debunks Right-Wing Smear of Gore

The swift boaters for mistruth are at it again. Within a couple days of Vice President Al Gore winning an Academy Award for his documentary the attacks began. Baseless allegations of using too much energy himself popped up. Wingnut sites began carrying the news after it appeared on the Drudge Report. He got it from a think tank in Tennessee that doesn't even get web traffic. Another attack exposed from the wingnuts that attack liberals as much as possible.

McCain To Keynote For Creationists

I know, I know, everyone is saying McCain is continually falling to pieces. His poll numbers are dropping, he tries to make friends with people who want nothing to do with him (i.e. Dobson), it goes on and on.

Well Mr. Straight Talk Express is trying to dive even faster down the cliff by accepting an 'opportunity' to be the keynote speaker for the Discovery Institute.

The Discovery Institute is well known to fight for 'intelligent design' to be taught in classrooms and to win the debate against evolution and hard science altogether. These creationists follow the bible to the n'th degree and McCain has no problem trying to slither up to them and their votes.

From ThinkProgress:

Today is Darwin Day, commemorating the anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth and of the publishing of On the Origin of Species. The National Academy of Sciences, “the nation’s most prestigious scientific organization,” declares evolution “one of the strongest and most useful scientific theories we have.” President Bush’s science adviser John Marburger calls it “the cornerstone of modern biology.”

Yet, on February 23, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) will be the keynote speaker for the most prominent creationism advocacy group in the country. The Discovery Institute, a religious right think-tank, is well-known for its strong opposition to evolutionary biology and its advocacy for “intelligent design.” The institute’s main financial backer, savings and loan heir Howard Ahmanson, spent 20 years on the board of the Chalcedon Foundation, “a theocratic outfit that advocates the replacement of American civil law with biblical law.”

As ThinkProgress notes, McCain has wavered on the issue, flip-flopping as he has done with other important matters in the past. In 2005 he said he supported many different views to be taught in the classroom but that intelligent design shouldn't be part of science class. Well John, these people you are speaking for want to replace evolution with intelligent design creationism for good.

McCain certainly is trying to buddy-buddy up with some of the most politically active segment of the religious right. The man just doesn't know where to stop. This Express train keeps on heading for the cliff with no looking back.

Now The Wingers Are Messing With My Hometown

I am a New Yorker at heart and thankfully live here now, but I did grow up in L.A. So when a winger like Ann Coulter talks shit about the city of angels, it pisses me off. Of course she is a certified nutcase and under investigation for multiple crimes but this had to be mentioned.

Recently John McCain and Mitt Romney compared NYC to Iraq, now the crazy blond-hair lady compared the civil war in Iraq to California. To her Baghdad is like Los Angeles in that the crips and bloods fight amongst themselves as the Sunni and Shias are slaughtering each other on the streets of Baghdad.

See the insanity if you wish, from Crooks and Liars.

Seriously, when is the media going to understand that putting this woman on television is never a good idea. I don't care about ratings, we need some sanity on cable news and she certainly does not contribute anything like that.

Putting 'Condoms' and 'Al Gore' in the same sentence

I never thought that the time would come when I would have to fuse those two words in a sentence. Leave it up to a free-speech-hating conservative bookDVD-burner to make some news out of Seattle this week. People For The American Way's (PFAW) Right-Wing Watch caught this piece from the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

"Condoms don't belong in school, and neither does Al Gore. He's not a schoolteacher," said Frosty Hardison, a parent of seven who also said that he believes the Earth is 14,000 years old. "The information that's being presented is a very cockeyed view of what the truth is. ... The Bible says that in the end times everything will burn up, but that perspective isn't in the DVD." Hardison's e-mail to the School Board prompted board member David Larson to propose the moratorium Tuesday night.

And you thought these people didn't exist anymore? They are alive and well (not mentally however) espousing their horrid beliefs that fly in the face of reality and sanity. After hearing Hardison's complaints, the Federal Way school board did not choose the logical decision of dismissing the loon. Instead the banned An Inconvenient Truth. No, I don't have to repeat that, you can read it again and again if you like.

Hardison's wife is off her rocker as well, listen to this crap:
"From what I've seen (of the movie) and what my husband has expressed to me, if (the movie) is going to take the approach of 'bad America, bad America,' I don't think it should be shown at all," Gayle Hardison said. "If you're going to come in and just say America is creating the rotten ruin of the world, I don't think the video should be shown."

Well isn't she a good wife, supporting her man. You believe what you are told dear and everything will be just fine. Geez, this reminds me of the scene in 'Field of Dreams' at the PTA meeting when Annie Kinsella smacks down the woman in favor of banning books. So I ask you Mr. Hardison, Mr. Failed-City Council-Candidate, are you in favor of the constitution?
