Sam Seder Asks Republicans: Candidate X Or Ronald Reagan?

They just can't make up their minds, but for the few GOP supporters Sam interviewed, they'd take Ronald Reagan over their favored choice in a heartbeat:

Everyone is talking about Michigan this morning and what it means for the Republican party and its future. Mitt's first win in an important state takes the wind from McCain's sails since they inflated in New Hampshire and Huckabee is still following along after his upset in Iowa. What does it all mean? Did the Democrats do the trick in the mitten-looking state? Could it have been a combination of that and the fact that the Republicans have no idea who they like in their primary so they'll just vote for a different candidate in each state? I'm guessing its a mix.

The conclusions from this are many. This was clearly not what the G.O.P wanted, damn, they even sent out a press release congratulating McCain on his win. Obviously that little piece of paper was written a while back with some sort of intention for the Senator from Arizona.

The implications though could be much worse (for the Republicans) than screwing with who should or should not win the primary according to the party brass. As LithiumCola points out, maybe Republicans don't want a "Gipper" junior. Everyone in the race over there has been desperate to point out that they are more like Reagan than the rest of the pack. Maybe, their voters don't really gave a rat's ass. Most likely they are just fed up and deep down know that their party suffers from no ideas and the stench of corruption and it permeates from everyone up on their stage.

Conservatives Love Bumbling Idiots

All around the blogosphere yesterday Fred Thompson was being bashed for not knowing about a crucial issue in Florida concerning drilling in the Everglades. The man simply had no clue there was even oil down there. It's official, he's clueless. Yet we already know this, and we also know many conservatives do not read up on details like these. Tennessee is far from Florida and for Fred that is just too far.

Who cares if he was a Senator at the time President Bush set aside funds to protect the area, Fred was obviously not paying attention then and it seems nothing has changed since 2002. I really wonder if he wants to do this at all sometimes. His lack of energy for the campaign is quite noticeable.

Though I think that does not matter to the people behind Fred. Conservatives see him as their Ronald Reagan just as liberals try vainly to see Bobby Kennedy in Barack Obama. Message to both sides, they will never be your heroes. There was only one Bobby Kennedy, he died way before his time and what looked like his eventual Presidency that would have changed the course our nation ended up going on. As for a new Reagan....thank god no one will ever be like that moron. He started this movement to ruin our country and now we have Georgie trying to finish us off.

So, everyone is looking for a hero, I understand that, but Fred is definitely not it, not even close.

Reagan Speaks From The Grave On Giuliani

Giuliani has plenty of critics on the left and also from the social conservative right, but who would have thought Ronald Reagan would weigh in on the race for presidency in 2008? Apparently the gipper thinks Rudy is crazy. Plain frickin nuts as I see him. Reagan didn't actually appear in anyone's visions recently, he said it many years ago when Rudy was just a prosecutor.

The quote comes from a June 14, 1988 entry in the diary of our 40th President. If thats what he thought of him then, imagine what he would say after seeing him as a Mayor of New York. Prosecuting someone in the Philippines is nuts when your jurisdiction is in the Northeast is a little out there and the conservative deity's judgment cannot be questioned (at least by the current crop on Neo-Cons and other wing-nuts).

How will the Republican community take this news? It certainly has the possibility of coming up in the next Republican debate, or at least from his new enemy Ron Paul. If the American Spectator can print it, the movement can use it as well.
