GOP Should Listen To Scarborough, Stop Hatin'

Joe Scarborough may be a Republican, but at least he's one that has the ability to look at the party and shake his head in shame. Joe has been out of Congress for a few years now and without someone like John Boehner to boss him around, he can see that the whole fear card isn't working out too well for what was once the Grand....Old Party.

From RawStory:

In an appearance Sunday on NBC’s Meet the Press, Scarborough offered Ronald Reagan as a model of temperamental moderation, saying, “We need to be conservative, but like Reagan. … We can’t scare little kids.” On his own MSNBC program the next day, he emphasized again, “They’ve got to drop the hate.”

“If you know you’re right, then why be angry?” Scarborough asked calmly. “I do a radio show, and a lot of callers that call in expect me to scream and yell and say I hate President Obama. Being against his policies, for some reason with a lot of people in the base that’s not enough. They want you to hate the man.”[...]

“If you’re mature enough,” Scarborough continued,” you realize Barack Obama doesn’t hate America, I don’t hate America — we just have different views of how to make America a better place And if you look at history over 250 years, that’s worked out pretty well.”

The problem though Joe, is that too many Republicans that have made it into office aren't mature. They'd rather stoke the fears of people and make them believe that the other side hates America, and blah blah blah. GOP leaders get caught up in this hysteria and run with it, never hesitating to look back and take stock of the damage they do with that violent rhetoric. It ends up with people feeling like their states should secede from the union. That isn't just wrong, it's insanity.

Quite Possibly The Smartest Thing Joe Scarborough Has Ever Said

Watch and listen, particularly what starts around the :24 second mark:

Congratulations Joe on your remarkable discovery that for the most part, the media has no clue as to what is going on in the minds of the American people. Now only if you can remember that each and everytime you go on air....oh and tell all your other pundit friends too!

Joe Scarborough Put In His Place By Brzezinski

Joe Scarborough is one of my more tolerable conservative hacks, but he is still overly misguided on how the world works. Perhaps because of his years in Congress or just loyalty to the GOP, Joe came to MSNBC to do commentary with heavily distorted glasses on. Sometimes he does alright, but others he needs to be smacked into reality by his elders.

From Crooks and Liars:

I've always had a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for Zbigniew Brzezinski. And after this epic smackdown of the eminently ignorant and simple-minded Joe Scarborough, I know that affection was well-placed.

Scarborough: "You cannot blame what's going on in Israel on the Bush administration."

Brzezinski: "You know, you have such a stunningly superficial knowledge of what went on that it's almost embarrassing to listen to you."

Who knows if Joe does any research before his shows (not counting the daily downloads of right wing talking points) but when it comes to the I/P conflict he clearly doesn't have a clue. The Bush Administration, while not the pre-eminent reason for the current mess, has done nothing positive in the last eight years in order to diffuse tensions. If anything, they made it much worse.

Bob Shrum Points Out Big 3's Lies On TV Today

The auto industry and their conservative friends have tried to push a misleading figure that says auto workers make over $70 an hour with benefits. That was clearly and easily debunked online as soon as it was mentioned. Now, at least on this show, there is a little bit of truth seeping out into the traditional media about how much those workers actually get, which is somewhere around $28.

McCain: "I'm Not A Rich Man"

While on the topic of baseball this morning, John McCain got a line in at the end of the interview where he stated he wasn't a rich man.

While I like his favorable mention of the Dodgers, trying to mislead people about his wealth was one line too many for him on Mornin Joe. In reality, he is one of the richest men in the Senate...and that is no small feat.

McCain Proves He's A Jerk To Mika Brezezinski

John McCain is known for being a hot-head, but when he goes on national television and talks with journalists, you'd think he'd be polite. Instead of following that protocol, McCain attacks Mika Brezezinski on the air, calling her an Obama supporter when she has clearly been trying to stay non-partisan. Mika is disgusted by it and so should anyone who watches it.

Shuster Exposes Giuliani And GOP Concern Trolling

This week the Republican horde is trying to do one thing and one thing only, stir up trouble in the Democratic Party. Since nothing seems to stick, despite the traditional media's best efforts with the whole PUMA thing, Giuliani et al. are trying everything to slime Barack Obama and the DNC. The latest attempt by Mr. 9/11 was to criticize President Bill Clinton's speaking position, but David Shuster blew his hypocritical cover.

From ThinkProgress:

In an appearance on Morning Joe, Rudy Giuliani tried to stir a fake controversy over former President Bill Clinton’s speech tonight at the Democratic National Convention. “Are they gonna have him on in prime-time?” Giuliani asked, “or are they gonna do to him what they did to Governor Warner and stick him in two slots earlier.” (Clinton will speak in the 9-10 pm hour ET.) MSNBC analyst David Shuster immediately shot back: “Yeah right, as opposed to sticking him on the first night of the convention like what the Republicans are doing with George W. Bush and Vice President Cheney?”

Host Joe Scarborough asked, “How strange is it that they’re putting the sitting President of the United States on Monday night, Labor Day? Doesn’t that say all that needs to be said about George Bush’s standing in the country?”

Oh that isn't strange at all, George Bush is more toxic to the GOP than ever before. If it were possible, they'd probably make him stay away. And you won't see McCain anywhere near him next week. Despite all that has gone on with Bill Clinton and the primaries, he is still a well-respected party elder and will continue to be so because ultimately he is a decent man that puts out a tremendous effort to do good in the world. So while Rudy may try to throw sticks at the Democratic juggernaut (and you can watch it on YouTube), it is much easier to blow down the GOP's house of cards with a gust of truth.

Senator Menendez, Economists Do Make Policy

Sometimes being a Clinton supporter has its limitations, such as distorting one's view of reality. That happened to Senator Menendez from New Jersey this morning, as the "gas tax debate" continues on:

Economists do make policy, they work at institutions such as Cato, Rand, Center for American Progress and the Brennan Center, etc etc. and lawmakers like you use their findings to write legislation. Though other times it may just be done by a lobbyist so I could be wrong about that policy thing.

Oh and Bob, being the millionaire that you are, do you really believe that you feel the pains of average Americans?

I certainly don't.

Hillary Lies Again On Morning Joe

For the majority of this segment, I must admit Hillary Clinton looked pretty damn good. Things started going down with the gas tax somewhat, but then Tiki Barber asked her about the delegate count.

See her remarks at the 8:45 mark:

Um Senator, you are still behind in the popular vote. That is an outright lie that you continue to parrot. If you followed the rules (along with Florida and Michigan) Hillary would still be behind in the count, just as she is in states won and in the delegate count itself.

Clinton Stumped By Colombian Trade Deal Question

The conflict of interest is readily apparent here between her claims of being against the Colombian trade deal yet her husband has made money speaking in favor of it. Yet when a reporter asks her about it, her only answer is to laugh nervously in front of the press.

I don't care how many angels dance on the head of a pin (um, wtf does that mean?), I want to know why or why not you think that conflicts with your position. Why was that so hard Senator?

Let The Interviews Begin

It's a busy day today and the candidates are up early and raring to go this morning. Here's Barack on Scarborough a few hours ago.

Meanwhile here at the N.Y.P.I.R.G. office, I'm trying to help voters who call the hotline, but I'm in a race against several people to pick up the phone when it rings....finally, a true horserace :-)

Calling A Buffoon A Buffoon

Forget spades, when addressing Bill O'Reilly, you better come to the table ready to name call. Sure we have tons of them, Falafel boy, Loofah man, moron, loud mouth, idiot, tool, liar, scumbag, I could go on and on. Rarely though do you hear the media talking about him save for Keith Olbermann or whoever gets in his path of ridiculous ire. Well David Shuster changed that this morning while on Scarborough's show over on MSNBC.

From RawStory:

In the middle of a discussion of the Democratic primaries on MSNBC's Morning Joe, correspondent David Shuster burst out, "I don't know if this is the time to talk about Bill O'Reilly, but I've got a lot of things I want to say."

When encouraged to "get it out," Shuster stated emphatically, "Bill O'Reilly is a jerk."

"There's Bill O'Reilly at a Barack Obama event," Shuster explained. "Bill O'Reilly shoved a guy -- shoved a guy who was working for Barack Obama, because the guy happened to be standing in a certain spot. And there's Bill O'Reilly saying, 'Nobody gets in the way of the Factor's cameras.' ... Obama comes up, and what does Bill O'Reilly do? Does he ask some tough penetrating question? ... No. 'Will you come on my show?'"

"Give me a break," said Shuster. "What a jerk. What a jerk. Fox News ought to be so embarrassed with this guy."

"He's a cartoon character," agreed Mika Brzezinski.

"He's a buffoon," amplified Shuster. "He's such a buffoon, and everybody knows it."

All Shuster had to do was crack open the door on Bill and the flood came out. Everyone knows that Bill O is jerk, buffoon and all those names I listed above, but rarely does the media talk trash about him. Perhaps a lot of his 'peers' were afraid of him for whatever reason. Yet after watching him act the way he did in New Hampshire at the Obama rally, reporters got the message that O'Reilly is fair game.

Hear that, hunting season is open CNN, MSNBC and any other press outfit out there!

Ex-Bushie Slams Rove For Rewriting History Of Iraq

There are plenty of ex-Bush Administration officials these days. Seven years of a failed Presidency will certainly create many of them. Of course that doesn't mean they will speak out against one another, but the former White House Chief of Staff Andy Card came out against Rove's ridiculous claim that the Democrats are to blame for rushing to war in Iraq. Not only did he refute it, he came out swinging with brass knuckles.

From ThinkProgress:

This morning, former White House chief of staff at the time, Andrew Card, appeared on MSNBC’s Morning Joe and completely discredited Rove’s argument:

SCARBOROUGH: We have to start with something that we all are talking about a couple of days ago where Karl Rove went on Charlie Rose and he blamed the Democrats for pushing him and the president into war. Is that how it worked?

CARD: No, that’s not the way it worked.

Card went on to explain that sometimes Rove’s “mouth gets ahead of his brain”:

SCARBOROUGH: Is that just Karl spinning beyond the White House? …

CARD: Well, Karl is very smart. He’s — sometimes his brain gets ahead of his mouth. And sometimes his mouth gets ahead of his brain.

That highly touted brain of Rove's is seriously scrambled. If he thinks he is going to get away with lying about how we went to war, he's gotta be on some serious drugs. You know its bad when the former Chief of Staff is willing to rake Rove across the coals.

Of course, reality's version of how we went to war tells a different tale.
