Terrorists To Skip NYC For Mtns Of Colorado

If I were an Islamic extremists hanging out in the mountains of Pakistan or Afghanistan, where would I want to strike the infidels in America? Would it be the iconic sights of New York City? Perhaps the halls of government in Washington, D.C. like the White House or Congress. Or maybe go out west and take out Hollywood, the purveyor of all the unholy shit that is made there. Well forget about that, because the Department of Homeland Security knows where the next attack is going to be, right in the gambling center of Colorado Springs.

From The Colorado Springs Gazette:

Colorado Springs-based Ramblin Express, which shuttles gamblers to mountain-town casinos, including Cripple Creek, has received $382,000 in anti-terrorism grants.

The most recent grant, for $184,415, was announced this month as part of the Department of Homeland Security's $844 million Infrastructure Protection Activities program.

Ramblin Express' grant is among the $11.2 million allocated to the Intercity Bus Security Grant Program, which is intended to assess risks and prevent attacks on that part of the nation's transportation system.

It's not clear what threats Ramblin Express is addressing or what the grant money has gone for because the company's owner, Todd Holland, couldn't be reached for comment.

Even the Heritage Foundation couldn't defend this crap. This is another example of the ridiculousness that goes on in the Bush Administration. Funds to prevent attacks in places like NYC and DC get diverted to rich bastards like Todd Holland. I wonder what McCain sycopha...errr, Senate Homeland Security Chair Joe Lieberman thinks about this? Maybe Holland is a patriotic American just doing his duty for the country, and certainly not a lobbyist-funding, Republican donor either.

Big Oil Loves Big Bob Schaffer

How nice of all these rich oil executives to take the time to thank Senate candidate Bob Schaffer who made sure to take care of his buddies with a $33 billion dollar tax cut. If only all of us had friends like Bob.

"Burn Their Idols In The Fire" -Deut 7:5-6

First of all, for those of the Christian faith, I know Jesus is not a symbol of idolatry. I'm not saying that, so don't take it to be offensive. Though I think building a 22 foot statue of him is a bit much. If a church in Golden, Colorado wants to erect it on their property by the side of Interstate 70, that is their business. Still, I cannot help but laugh (and breath a sigh of relief that no one was hurt) to see a bolt of lightening take off the statue's arm from a passing storm this afternoon.

From The Denver Post:

The lightning bolt broke off one of Jesus' arms and a hand and damaged one of his feet, sending marble plummeting to the ground during a Saturday afternoon storm.

"There were pilgrims up there on the hill," Sister Ilaria said. "The biggest miracle is no one got hit with the falling debris."

The statue of Jesus, which had one hand pointing to his "sacred heart" and the other outstretched, sits atop a mountain near the shrine in the foothills of Golden. Drivers on Interstate 70 can see the statue in the hills, and at night, light illuminates the white marble.

Jesus, wearing a robe and glancing down, is 22 feet tall with an 11-foot base.

Now the nuns are considering the costs of repairing the marble edifice, who rely solely on contributions. Perhaps using those donations to help those less fortunate, the ones Jesus and other biblical figures supposedly command us to give comfort and aid would benefit more than a marble statue repairman.
