As a freshman in the New York State Senate, Eric Adams isn't known for much. To be fair, with one year how much can you really do in the seniority-based legislature that is in our state. However, Senator Adams just added a notch on his belt, one he won't be able to live down for quite a while. On the Senate floor, he showed his constituents why he is really interested in being in politics.
From The New York Times:
During a floor debate this evening on the issue of pay raises, he errupted in outrage — and with a nod to “Jerry Maguire” — at the fact that lawmakers were long overdue a raise, even though he is a first-term lawmaker.
“I deserve to get paid more, and I’m only a freshman and I’m complaining,” Mr. Adams said, and then added, in a thundering impersonation of Cuba Gooding Jr.’s Oscar-winning performace as the pro football player Rod Tidwell: “Show me the money. Show me the money. That’s what it’s all about.”
Legislators earn a base salary of $79,500, less than City Council members but enough to rank them third highest among all state lawmakers in the country. And many lawmakers make much more from stipends for a variety of leadership positions.
Poor guy, eighty grand just doesn't cut it these days to work up in Albany. You would think public service was something more illustrious than swindling money on Wall Street, but Eric lays it out flat. He wants to get paid and paid now. Brooklyn must be proud of this schmuck.
